Dear Participants,

The South East Asian Conference on Ageing 2010 was successfully concluded with your generous support and dedication. On behalf of the organizers, I would like to thank everyone for making the event a success and the conference received nationwide coverage in the press and television. We would like to record our most sincere appreciation to the Keynote, Plenary and Oral Paper presenters, in particularly those who travelled far and wide to be with us in Kuala Lumpur. From the enthusiastic response we have received, the Institute of Gerontology, Universiti Putra Malaysia will definitely consider organizing the event biennially.

The Secretariat will keep this blog active and upload the presentations, press articles, photos, statements and other reports of the conference. We are working to publish the conference proceedings and will keep everyone posted on the latest developments. Please feel free to forward any suggestions and comments so that together, we can forge ahead with our efforts to create a society for all ages.

Abstract Submission Closed and Other Updates

April 13, 2010

Abstract submission for SEACA2010 is now closed. The Scientific Committee has received well over 60 abstracts for oral and poster presentations from the Southeast Asian region and beyond (e.g. Hongkong, China, India, Korea, Australia, United States of America, Turkey, Iran).

Notifications of acceptance will be e-mailed to the corresponding authors by 16 April 2010 after the completion of reviews by the Scientific Committee.


Deadline for Abstract Submission is Extended to 9 April 2010

South East Asian Conference on Ageing 2010: Conference Registration Opens

Registration for the SEACA2010 is now open. The conference will feature invited keynote and plenary papers, workshops as well as oral and poster presentations on old age and ageing at the Grand Millennium Hotel Kuala Lumpur. A special room rate for participant’s accommodation has been negotiated with the conference hotel.

Do join us to be part of this regional conference and don’t miss out on the opportunities to network with other colleagues in the growing field of gerontology.

Dear colleagues and friends,

On behalf of the Secretariat, it is my honour and priviledge to invite you to the South East Asian Conference on Ageing to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 17 to 18 July, 2010.

The Institute of Gerontology (IG), Universiti Putra Malaysia and the International Institute on Ageing (INIA), United Nations-Malta, is co-organizing the two-day event at the Grand Millennium Hotel Kuala Lumpur, featuring renowned international keynote speakers as well as plenary papers on a range of issues related to old age and ageing. The theme for the inaugural regional conference is “Improving Well Being in Later Life”, reflecting the multidisciplinary nature of the phenomenon in a diverse socio-cultural and geographical region. This conference represents a unique opportunity for policymakers, researchers and social workers from various countries to come together and share our knowledge on the challenges and opportunities of population ageing in South East Asia. 

We invite you to submit papers and posters along the five (5) identified sub-themes on i. policy, demography and population ageing, ii. work, social protection and econmic well being, iii. older person, family and the ommunity, iv. healthy ageing and active lifestyle, and v. technology and elderly friendly environment. Extended abstracts of accepted papers and posters will be published in an ISBN conference proceedings and workshops will be held to draft a conference resolution and make recommendations for action.

We look forward to meeting you all in Kuala Lumpur at the conference. Let us come together to honour and celebrate our elders by building a better society for all ages.
